WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT OPERATOR (Grade 2, 3 or 4)

Monthly Salary Ranges:

Wastewater Operator Grade 2: $6,376 – $7,751

Wastewater Operator Grade 3: $7,070 – $8,594

Wastewater Operator Grade 4: $7,601 – $9,239

The Carpinteria Sanitary District is seeking a motivated and resourceful individual to fill an open position within the District’s Wastewater Operations department.  We will consider State certified wastewater treatment plant operators with current Grade 2 or higher.  See below for detailed information on the individual positions (grade levels) available to candidates based on qualifications and experience.

Opportunities for advancement and professional development are available, as the District is in the final design phase for Carpinteria Advanced Purification Project (CAPP).  This project includes a 1.2 MGD advanced water treatment facility to be located at the existing plant site.  The selected candidate will be a key, ground floor participant in this exciting potable reuse project.

Generally, wastewater treatment plant operator responsibilities include monitoring wastewater treatment plant processes, maintaining and repairing equipment and systems, performing routine laboratory tests, and other key tasks necessary to operate a state of the art wastewater treatment facility.  Availability for periodic “on-call” duty is mandatory.

Possession of a valid California driver’s license and a high school diploma or GED is required.  All applicants must possess Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certification from the State Water Resources Control Board at a level commensurate with the assigned position. The successful candidate must also pass a post-offer, pre-employment physical and background check.

WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT OPERATOR-IN-TRAINING

The Carpinteria Sanitary District is seeking candidates to apply for entry level Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator in Training (OIT) positions.  This is a ground floor opportunity and a pathway to a career in the water resources industry.

We are seeking motivated, resourceful individuals who are eager to learn the job duties of the OIT position.  Under general supervision, the Operator-In-Training will perform a variety of tasks in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant including monitoring wastewater treatment plant processes, performing routine laboratory tests, and other key tasks necessary to maintain and operate a state of the art wastewater treatment facility.

The selected candidate will participate in a comprehensive training program and will be required to obtain an Operator in Training Certificate from the State Water Resources Control Board.  Obtaining a Grade 2 Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certification within 36 months from date of hire is a requirement of the position.

The ideal OIT will be excited and driven to pursue advanced water treatment operator (AWTO) certification as soon as possible, to coincide with construction of the Carpinteria Advanced Purification Project.

Regular working hours for this position are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. with ability to work weekends, nights and holidays as needed.  Possession of a valid California driver’s license and a high school diploma or equivalent is required.  An associate’s or bachelor’s degree is highly desirable.
