The Carpinteria Sanitary District will be doing some necessary repair and maintenance on its ocean outfall pipeline over the next two weeks, as conditions allow. The 24 inch diameter outfall pipe conveys fully treated and disinfected effluent to a discharge point about a quarter mile offshore of Carpinteria Creek. A recent, routine inspection of this critical infrastructure found that several of the diffuser ports small openings in the pipe near the end of the outfall that allow for even distribution of flow were covered by sand and sediment. Dive teams from Global Diving & Salvage will be making modifications to all 17 diffusers to ensure that the system can operate at its full desin capacity. The dive support vessel Danny C will be anchored offshore each day during the work, starting on October 2nd. Feel free to contact the District for information on this important project.
