On Wednesday, March 5th, an Environmental Science class from Santa Barbara City College toured the District's wastewater treatment plant.

 Mark Bennett, our Operations Manager, led the students through the facility explaining the physical, biological and chemical treatment processes that are used in combination to achieve a consistent, high quality effluent. Jacob Broad showed off our State certified environmental laboratory and set up a slide on our microscope to identify the microorganisms that are critical to the treatment process. We also demonstrated the plant’s sophisticated SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) monitoring system, which provides critical, real-time updates for the operations team.
