CSD COLLECTION SYSTEM NAMED BEST IN STATE!

The Carpinteria Sanitary District received the prestigious statewide California Water Environment Association “Collection System of the Year” award for 2025 in the small system category. The award, conferred on April 9th at the CWEA Annual Conference in Sacramento, recognizes the District for its outstanding performance, innovative practices, cost effectiveness and superior system operations. The District prevailed over other regional award-winning agencies from throughout California that own and operate less than 250 miles of sewer pipeline.

Receiving the statewide award for the third time, District Operations Manager Mark Bennett commented, “Our goal is always continuous improvement, and over the past two years we have doubled down on collection system maintenance and enhanced customer service.” Travis Kearney, the District’s Collection System Supervisor, gave credit to the amazing team of qualified and dedicated wastewater professionals who work hard each day to protect public health and the environment. The award was presented by CWEA President Howard Brewen.

The District recently completed a system-wide cleaning and CCTV video inspection program to assess the condition of its 45 miles of buried sewer pipelines in record time. In addition to the heightened focus on productivity, the team leverages technological advancements in the industry, using tablet computers in the field, high quality digital video for pipeline inspections, and computerized system mapping with fully integrated workflow management software. As a result, the District maintains an excellent compliance history, with sewer overflows and blockages occurring very infrequently in Carpinteria.
