Building for the future of Carpinteria

The District’s new Administrative Office  and Board building is nearing completion after an 18 month construction phase and several years of permitting, design and planning.  Newton Construction & Management, our San Luis Obispo based general contractor, has done an excellent job navigating a challenging construction environment, overcoming pandemic related supply chain issues, labor shortages and inflated material costs.  Interior finishes and exterior hardscape and landscape are the final steps in progress, with a target completion date in early July.

The new Administrative Office is replacing the modular trailer office building that served as the District’s headquarters since 1991 at the same 5300 6th Street location.  The building designer, Blackbird Architects, incorporated a multitude of green building elements into the structure and the overall site design.  Super high efficiency lighting, heating and cooling are augmented with features that enhance natural light and air flow.  A rooftop photovoltaic solar system will make the building essentially energy neutral. The District Board Room will be separate from the main office building, but connected by a breezeway.  This layout will allow for use by community groups, government collaborations or other non-profit organizations.

District staff is actively planning the move back into the new office building.  We hope to make the transition and welcome the public to the new space in August or September of this year.
